Our Department provides knowledge and skills to a large number of first generation learners. It strives to make the students responsible personalities to serve the society. This is achieved through the class room lectures, students' seminars, ICT and brainstorming sessions.
The department offering UG programme was established in the year
1979-1980 with English and Tamil medium having an intake of 40
students each. In the year 2012-2013, PG course was started with an
intake of 24 students. In the year 2012-2013, M.Phil (FullTime /
Part Time) research programme was started with an intake of 25
students. Moreover, the Ph.D (Full Time) research programme was
started in the year 2012-2013. Our department has 7 faculty members.
All the faculty members are recognized research supervisors for
guiding M.Phil/Ph.D research scholars. The research areas of our
department are Ultrasonics, Spectroscopy& Luminescence, Condensed
Matter Physics, Crystal growth, Thin Films, Solar Energy,
Dielectrics, Nanotechnology and Nano science. Our faculty members
have published more than 150 research papers in reputed
international and national journals. The projects of some PG
students have been given a grant by TNSCST& TNSCHE.
Six PG Projects had been selected for grant by TNSCST and TNSCHE.
Two PTA meeting has conducted every academic year and receive the grievances from the parents.
The problems are resolved through the PTA Meeting
Every year we celebrate PONGAL festival.
The department celebrates National Science Day every year.
Physics Association is initiated during odd semester of every academic year.
Our Association has conducted Workshop, Seminar, Conference, Quiz Program, Essay composition and Elocution
